Classification of epilepsies - updated new version
International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) publishes new epilepsy classification (german language)
Since the last ratified epilepsy classification in 1989, far-reaching scientific advances have led to a significant increase in knowledge about epilepsies and their underlying mechanisms, so that the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) has now updated the epilepsy classification. As a fundamental tool for the treating physician, an epilepsy classification must be able to respond dynamically and relevantly to changing concepts, but at the same time remain reliably applicable anywhere in the world. The classification is primarily used for clinical diagnosis, but is also important for research, development of antiepileptic therapies, and global communication.
